bit of a recap

happy (belated) new year!
almost six months since my last post, feels like a lost cause trying to catch up. life has been nothing short of busy, breathless, sometimes frenetic but always interesting. it's hard to imagine that less than three years ago, i moved to nyc knowing only a handful of friends and carrying nothing but a few suitcases and a whole lotta hope. my, how the good Lord has blessed me again and again with open doors and timely provisions. grateful doesn't even begin to describe it.

in short, in the last six months:
- work has challenged and pushed me in all sorts of ways and directions. i've been privileged to manage art projects that have been featured on npr, in nytimes, wall street journal....
- i've been settling down slowly but surely at redeemer presbyterian as my home church here. putting down roots is not easy in a city as fast-paced, transient and commitment-cautious as new york, but i'm forcing myself.
- along those lines, i'm figuring out what it means to really live here. grad school didn't feel like real life here - now it's starting to feel like real life. but finding rhythms and patterns is tough - it feels like the pace and volume of work often leave very little margin. and there's always something to do and someone to catch up with. even my "off" days can feel very much "on."
- i started dating this really great guy. i've never been so happy....and i'm turning into a sap. :)

for a better snapshot of the last few months, here are actual snapshots.....

bliss-filled blur

one official week of summer left....it's been a happy blur. just the thought of recapping everything seems overwhelming, so instead i'm slapping photos on here to summarize my summer since it's more fun to look at images anyway.

internship

this semester, i'm interning with an organization called no longer empty, a non-profit arts organization that revitalizes unused spaces around the city by curating temporary art exhibitions coupled with thematic community programming. the workload is running me ragged - i'm coordinating several events - but i'm LOVING it. thank God for my days at twocities.....all that event production experience is coming in handy.

here's a visual smattering of some of the events i've been involved with so far....

"the wedding": an interactive theater performance where audiences participated in various wedding-related transactions with the actors

"amorama": part of a monthly family day series with workshop activities for children

"immigrants are tax contributors": a participatory performance art piece with immigrant movement international

and i get to work with and meet some pretty darn cool people. can't complain.......

ringing in the new

old friends. new friends. art-viewing at museums. chowing down in chinatown. friends performing folk music in new year's eve concert. fireworks over the boston skyline. dance party. a whole lotta laughing.

2013, you're off to a wonderful start.

pretty great

today, one of my classes toured the met museum to walk through a newly opened exhibition with the curator.
that was followed by another class tour of the east fourth street cultural district in east village and sit-down discussion with fourth arts block's executive director (my internship supervisor!)

o, grad school. even when things are crazy busy, you're pretty great.

thankful

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

seems poetically appropriate in a way that i would lose blog posts from the last 7 months right before thanksgiving. in combing my memory to recount the events of the last half year, i have been astounded by the amount of blessings and provisions. there is so much to be truly grateful for.

since a picture is worth a thousand words, in the place of replacement posts, here is a photo gallery of just some of those things from the last 7 months for which i'm thankful.
